Taraxacum

By Jennifer Cesak

Dandelion wildflower

Weed of the wild

She is infinite bodies

Sprouting in all the empty cracks

Little stars floating through endless air

Catching wind, finding home

1 puff

1 gust from

Cigarette burnt edged lungs

American Spirit – black

Asteraceae family

Sprouting in clusters around

bare feet &

freshly cut grass

Lips sewn, keeper of secrets

he tries to pry Her mouth open

insert his prayers

his hymns

he tries

She breaks

silence &

makes a wish &

watches the tiny-white-wilted fireworks find air and flee

All past selves must watch as Her new body takes

rein

Sprouting in all the empty cracks
