The staff of RiverCraft would like to thank this year’s judge, Jason Ferris.
This year, the award was judged by Jason Ferris, a fiction writer and essayist from Maryland’s inner shores. He holds an MFA in fiction from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, and his work has been supported by the Truman Capote Fellowship, the Jeffrey and Kimberly Chapman Writing Fellowship, the Kenyon Review’s Peter Taylor Fellowship, and the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, MA, where he’s currently at work on his first novel. As an undergraduate at Susquehanna University, he won the 2020 Juliet Gibson Memorial Award for Outstanding Student Writer in Fiction, the 2021 Erick Kirkland Memorial Award for Creative Nonfiction, and the 2021 Gary and Elizabeth Fincke Outstanding Senior Portfolio Prize. His stories have been nominated for the PEN/Robert J. Dau Short Story Prize, chosen as a finalist in the 2021 Carve Magazine Prose and Poetry Contest, and published in RiverCraft, Essay, and Carve Magazine.
